Chernobyl Back Online: World Shocked It Was Ever Still Plugged In

(Worthy Satire) – Engineers in Ukraine proudly announced that power has been fully restored to the Chernobyl nuclear plant after a sudden outage this week. The announcement stunned the public–not because electricity had been restored, but because apparently, Chernobyl is still running.

“For decades we assumed it was just a museum piece with some deer wandering around,” one shocked Ukrainian official said. “Turns out the Soviets never really flipped the ‘off’ switch. We’ve just been paying the electric bill for a glowing lawn ornament.”

Residents nearby expressed a mixture of relief and horror. “We thought the strange green light at night was just the northern lights,” said one villager. “Now we find out it’s our neighbor’s nuclear reactor on sleep mode.”

International energy experts quickly scrambled to explain how an inactive reactor could be drawing power for so long. “Think of it like your grandma’s old refrigerator,” one IAEA scientist explained. “You unplug it, but somehow it still hums.”

Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials assured citizens that the situation was under control, saying the reactor was operating at “extremely low, almost imaginary capacity.” The European Union, however, has already added Chernobyl to its renewable energy list, since, as one diplomat put it, “apparently this thing has outlasted solar panels, wind turbines, and three generations of politicians.”
