Fido for the Food Chain: Danish Zoo Launches Pet Donation Program for Hungry Predators”

(Worthy Satire) – In a bold new move that has animal lovers howling and predators licking their chops, the Odense Zoo in Denmark has launched a groundbreaking initiative: “Pets for Predators”—an eco-conscious, circle-of-life inspired program that asks the public to donate their unwanted furry companions to feed the zoo’s carnivores.

“We’re simply returning to nature,” explained zoo spokesperson Lars Meatsen, standing in front of a tiger cage while holding a leash and a half-filled chew toy. “Your guinea pig has had a good life. Why not let it contribute to the ecosystem?”

The zoo assures the public that only “donated” pets will be used, and that walk-ins will require proof of ownership—no questions asked, just signature and species. “Our lions have very refined palates,” said senior zookeeper Greta Fang. “They turned their noses up at supermarket meat, but they devoured a pair of Labradoodles last week. Must be the organic diet.”

In exchange for their generosity, donors receive a paw print certificate and—if the donation is especially plump—a complimentary family pass for one visit (predator feeding times excluded).

The initiative has drawn outrage from animal rights groups and poodle breeders worldwide. “This is barbaric,” said one activist, chained to the zoo’s gift shop entrance. “They tried to feed me to the wolves last week. Said I looked ‘gamey.’”

Meanwhile, the zoo has announced a future expansion of the program: “Kids Eat Free Wednesdays,” where parents who bring in two or more goldfish or hamsters can earn discounts at the café. “No pet left behind—or uneaten,” the promotional flyer reads.

The program’s success has inspired other zoos across Europe, with whispers of a “Free-Range Shelter” model taking root in the Netherlands.

“Why waste a perfectly good chihuahua?” asked Meatsen with a shrug. “Nature doesn’t.”
